When you live in wine country there seems to be a wine related event every weekend which makes it tough to choose the ones to attend…sometimes!

Professionals help avid adventure-seeker balance a DIY lifestyle

My mom and dad raised a do-it-yourselfer. Car needs a headlight? Figure it out. Sink leaking? No problem. But what happens when your football-playing father teaches you to just suck it up when your body falls apart and that doesn’t work for you?

Disc Golf Course Proposed For Paso Robles

Sponsored by Michael Gill Cellars - Outstanding Paso Robles Syrah

A group of disc golf players are proposing to build new course on the east side of town on 60-acres of open land between Highway 46 and Kleck Road.

Disc golf is played like traditional golf, but instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disk or Frisbee and a metal basket called a pole hole.

Catamarans sailing Lake Lopez

Do you remember back in the late 80’s and early 90’s when Catamaran sail boats with brightly colored sails lined the beaches all over California? There are still a few beaches today, mostly in Southern California that you may see these Cats perched on the beaches. Here on the Central Coast of California you can now spot those brilliantly colored sails on a Saturday or Sunday at Avila and Port San Luis beaches or at beautiful Lopez Lake.

Catamaran sailing is back! It is thriving through the leadership of Scott Erwin, Commodore of Hobie Cat Fleet 259. Scott Erwin has a passion for sailing and a love to teach others how to sail. Just one look at Scott’s Atascadero backyard and you’ll see this passion of these small, double hulled sailboats. He has at least ten Catamarans ready to be towed to the beach or lake for a day of fun in the sun. A few of these boats are available for anyone to borrow and use.

Racing for the future of racing

When Alex Ho, a personal trainer based in San Francisco, won the Paso Robles Harvest Marathon last year with a time of 3:01:06, it couldn’t have been too big of a shocker. He had trained for two or three months, and had just come off of training for an Ironman 70.3 triathlon. He has also taken first place in the Sierra Recon Mud Run, and recently came in ninth place in a 100-mile race.

Sleeping in Neutral

Proper sleep positions promote better posture

A young man walks in the room, his shoulders are hunched and his head is so far forward that it looks painful. Others notice his posture and wonder what caused it – injury, genetics? Possibly, but later, when an old man walks in with the same posture, others think it’s because of his age.

Living and thriving with the big “C”

I grew up in San Luis Obispo. It was an idyllic and active childhood thanks to my amazing parents. I was one of those kids whose parents would literally tell me go outside and play until dinner. This resulted in frequent tromps all around Bishop Peak where I invariably got muddy at the pond. It also included daily trips to the SLO Swim Center for swim practice. The smell of chlorine wafting over the pool on a summer morning makes me want to dive in and crank out a few 1000 meters (time has allowed me to romanticize those killer workouts).
